Why early evaluation matters
The Right Treatment at the Right Time Changes Everything
Orthodontic problems rarely fix themselves — but caught early, many of the most serious ones can be prevented entirely. The AAO recommends every child see an orthodontist by age 7, when we can spot jaw-growth issues and crowding before they become complex.
Shorter future treatment
Early guidance can reduce — or eliminate — the need for more involved treatment during the teen years.
Prevent bigger problems
Crowded teeth, bite issues, and jaw imbalances are far easier to address while the jaw is still growing.
Build confidence early
A well-aligned smile impacts how your child feels about themselves at school and in social settings.

We brought our son in at age 8 for an evaluation and Dr. Melita spotted a jaw issue we had no idea about. Early treatment meant no surgery later. I am so grateful we came in.

Common questions
Parents Ask, We Answer
When should my child first see an orthodontist?
Orthodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry focused on diagnosing, preventing, and treating dental and facial irregularities. Orthodontists use braces, aligners, and other appliances to straighten teeth, correct bite issues, and improve overall oral health and aesthetics.
Does my child definitely need braces if they come in early?
Not necessarily. Many children benefit most from a “watch and wait” approach. Early evaluation simply means we can intervene at exactly the right moment — neither too early nor too late. We will never recommend treatment your child does not need.
What is Phase 1 (interceptive) orthodontic treatment?
Phase 1 treatment typically happens between ages 7–10 and uses appliances to guide jaw growth and make room for incoming adult teeth. It often shortens or simplifies any braces treatment needed later during the teen years.
Is Invisalign Teen as effective as braces?
For the majority of cases, yes. Invisalign Teen has compliance indicators built into each aligner so we can track wear time, and the system is designed for teens’ active lifestyles. Dr. Melita will recommend whichever option gives your teen the best result.
How long does treatment usually take for kids and teens?
Full treatment typically ranges from 12–24 months, depending on case complexity and the treatment option chosen. We will give you a personalized estimate at the free consultation — no surprises.
What does treatment cost, and do you accept insurance?
We accept most major dental insurance plans and offer flexible in-house financing with $0 down options. During your free consultation we will review your benefits, outline all costs up front, and find a monthly payment that fits your family’s budget.
Ready to Take the First Step?
A free consultation with Dr. Melita is the best way to understand what’s right for your child — and what to expect from start to finish. No commitment required.
